Involving children
Our commitment to broadening young people’s musical education continues, and was demonstrated by the inclusion of Tees Valley Youth Choir and singers from Sacred Heart High School, Newcastle in our Berlioz and Tippett concert at The Sage Gateshead in July 2009. In 2010 the première of Steve Block's Solaris involved members of Mid Herts Youth Choir and Finchley Children's Music Group.
We also produce education sheets on some of the works we perform. The sheets (very informative for both adults and young people) are available as downloads.

Involving adults
Where a concert venue allows, we open our pre-concert rehearsal to the general public and invite clubs and groups whom we think would be interested in the programme. Representatives of the Chorus are on hand to supply background information on the music being performed and answer any questions. Admission is free.
In February 2009 Hertfordshire Chorus shared St Albans Abbey with the recently formed South Oxhey Community Choir, who performed Barber's Agnus Dei with choirmaster Gareth Malone after listening to our performance of Verdi's Requiem.
Charities
The Chorus is a keen supporter of charities, particularly those concerned with children.
Each year our Christmas carol concert supports a charity; recent concerts have raised well over one thousand pounds for the Isabel Hospice, Grove House and The Pepper Foundation and many hundreds of pounds for
Teenage Cancer Trust, Hertfordshire Autistic Resource Centre and the
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Also, members of our ‘Race for Life’ team (pictured here) have raised
thousands of pounds for cancer research.
